The tattered, worn and weary walls glimmer with the dancing reflections of the sun peeking through the old pecan trees and broken windows. The room’s atmosphere is filled with the stale aroma of olden decomposing paint peeling from the enclosed vastness along with the decaying wood fragments scattered about the ground; once known as the ceiling. Cold and soundless, the room leaves you feeling numb and speechless. If the degenerating structures enclosing the dead, abandoned room could only utter the past seen and heard from here many years ago. The history that has been enfolded between those four walls locked away in the forgotten room of solitude is still remembered by those unfortunate ones still living today.

Imagine yourself being sent back 150 years to what is now considered history; the good ol’ days. The present rotting floor and collapsed ceiling has now restored back to original condition. The once comatose atmosphere is flushed with bitter wailing and noisy commotion as a nurse tries to force a woman experimental medication to “calm her nerves”. Over in the corner you see a slender man hunched over alone, focused on a small ladybug that adds color to the dull room… probably being his only companion, he treats it with utmost care as he slowly picks it up and softly talks to it. To the other side of the room, you’ll notice a visibly sane couple playing a round of chess and chattering on about how the other cheated in the game. Through the sea of faces you observe the looks of each person seen. Tired and faded, their faces seemed to deprive the life held within them once before; before they were diagnosed with fabricated illnesses and prescribed or treated with poison and horror…

so, i started writing about a mental asylum.

Another seemed to dwindle away. One after one they hit the glass and shined in the drowned sunlight as they slowly weebled down the cold, transparent window. You watch them as they race for the end of the window pane. Aw, the one you were rooting for lost. What a depressing story.
